The 2019 vintage was characterised by a warm winter and limited rainfall. Thanks to the significant rains of 2018, the vines preserved a reserve of water, leading to a perfect development across the whole growth cycle of the vines. The buds and flowering developed in a balanced way in each of the varieties on the property. The change in colour (veraison) and maturity began around mid-August and the grapes began to grow very evenly. The harvest began on 18 September, with the earliest variety, merlot, followed by tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon, which completed the harvest on 5 October.

Pago de Carraovejas 2019 is the most honest reflection of the valley to which it owes its name. An environment in which the vineyards climb its slopes to form a unique landscape. Limestone marls, clays and sandstones emerge on the surface of its soils dating back to the tertiary geological period. These are soils that force the vines to regulate themselves and give their best. Plots that converge in an orography marked by its unique mesoclimate. The vineyards are distributed from the middle zones to the uplands of over 900 metres; from the gentle undulation that descends towards the stream, to plots with a gradient of over 30%. Slopes facing south and north, each with its own personality, outline the profile of the Carraovejas valley.

The initial selection of bunches takes place on the vine itself. Subsequently, a double selection takes place in the winery: of clusters and berries. Gravity flow allows us to fully respect the raw material. Fermentation by plots, the use of own yeasts and tranquillity are the guidelines of the production of Pago de Carraovejas. The wine was refined in French and American oak barrels for around 12 months. Patience, care and attention to every detail resulted in a wine that, after clarifying with natural egg white, was bottled in spring 2021.

“Pago de Carraovejas 2019 is the full expression of the valley; a wine full of nuances. From a perspective of balance and a fresh character, the wine appears to have volume while also being dynamic. Well-rounded and vibrant. Floral nuances accompany the fruit in an elaboration marked by its elegance, intensity and structure. It expresses the winery’s commitment to the terroir and to express its characteristics. The three varieties present on the estate have been used to produce Pago de Carraovejas 2019: 93% Tinto Fino, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot”.
